Concealed starship weapons

Concealed starship weapons

Pirates, smugglers and other ne’er-do-wells often have cause to conceal the capabilities of their starships. Perhaps they sport illegal weaponry that might cause problems with security forces, or they just want to don the metaphorical sheep’s clothing, it is convenient to have weapons that remain invisible until deployed.

Blast-away paneling

The simplest and cheapest way to disguise starship weapons, this upgrade is a basic shroud of thin armour-plating built around the weapon mount, concealing the weapon from view. The degree to which the disguise is effective depends on the ship, size of weapon and skill of the installer. Activation is immediate – the weapon simply blasts the plating away from inside. The downside is that it needs to be replaced or repaired after every use.

Cost: 100 credits per size category of weapon.
Activation: none.

Pop-up mount

A more rugged and expensive solution, a pup-up (or -down, or -out) mounting conceals the weapon wholly within the body of the starship, covered by mechanically retractable hatches. When properly installed and shielded, this makes the weapons (when powered down) practically invisible to all but a close inspection or detailed scan. The only drawback is that it takes several seconds for the hatches to open and the weapon to deploy into a fire-ready position.

Single weapon mount
